The most popoular destination for hunting tourism

Hunting is a very well developed tourist offer in Istria. In fact Istria County is the most successful destination for hunting tourism in Croatia. The region has more than 240.000 hectares of hunting grounds, and is home to the following game:

  • Row deer
  • Common deer
  • Fallow-deer
  • Wild boars
  • Rabbits
  • Pheasants
  • Polish wheatears
  • Rock partridges

In Istria there are 46 hunting grounds with 13 hunting refuges. The main part of the hunting grounds are managed by the 37 regional hunting societies. In the period from October until the end of January, snipe hunt is allowed in all the Istrian hunting grounds.

Foreign hunters must be accompanied by domestic hunters from local hunting societies. Reservation of hunting days is mandatory. The Croatian Hunting Association grants the societies the right to kill a certain number of game, which they pay for.
